Coronavirus Update (COVID-19) from Suzanne Kelley, President & CEO

Watching events unfold over the last week, you’ve probably had a million thoughts swirl through your head.  I know I have.  How serious is this Coronavirus really?  How do I keep my family, friends and colleagues safe?  What does this mean for my business?  What steps can I take now to survive and thrive in the long-term?

The answers to some questions have become clearer over the past few days.  We’re all practicing more stringent personal hygiene, keeping our “social distance,” and trying to stay abreast of the latest news, executive orders and government guidance that are changing at a rapid-fire pace and becoming increasingly restrictive.

But there’s still a lot we don’t know.  We don’t know how long this pandemic will last.  We don’t really know what the long-term economic impact will be.  We don’t know when life will go “back to normal.”

What gives me comfort in all this churn are the things I do know.  I know we have incredible businesses, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations ready to collaborate. I know we have many business and public leaders willing to roll up their sleeves, engage, solve problems and work together to build a better community.  And I know our Alliance team is committed to making Waukesha County and our region the best place to do business.  All that hasn’t changed.

In the midst of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, the health and safety of our members is a top priority for the Alliance.  We have made the decision to cancel and/or reschedule all upcoming events and programs and meetings.  We invite you to visit our events & programs page for up-to-date information regarding these changes.

Our staff remains committed to serving you.  We are participating in daily briefings with the White House, Governor Evers’ Administration, U.S. Chamber, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and other organizations to learn the latest information and identify resources to help impacted businesses. We will provide periodic updates via email and regularly update our website.

We also want to hear from you.  If there are ways we can help, questions you have or best practices you would like to share about how your organization is responding to the current situation, please contact me at skelley@waukesha.org or (262)409-2623.  We would love to share your insights with the rest of our membership.

As a private, member-driven organization, we rely heavily on the support of our members. Cancelling and rescheduling programs puts a heavy financial burden on the Alliance and we greatly appreciate your continued support in the coming months.  Moving forward, I’m confident we’ll find innovative ways to encourage businesses connections and engagement.

This is not just about COVID-19, but doing our part to ensure there is capacity at our medical facilities to be able to assist with all illnesses.  It is not about us as individuals, but about protecting people with vulnerable/compromised immune systems and our friends and family over 60.

Thank you for your continued support.  If we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or another Alliance staff member.
